52 Ancestors 52 Weeks : favorite photo…
I don't have "one" favorite photo but "some" favorite photos... As soon as it comes to keeping a memory of my time in a hamlet, in a village, in a city, in a country, I can't help but take pictures, many photos...
These photos fix the heritage at the time of my visit. This heritage includes both old and contemporary buildings... When it was created, the Louvre pyramid didn't really excite me. Today, I find that it is very beautiful and corresponds well to this architecture desired by Louis XIV.
Each era, each character must leave an imprint on the building, whatever it is ! Again, I literally strafed like a machine-gun every place I visit. I always want to keep that detail that was there before me and will remain after me...
In genealogy, these photos are very important. Our ancestors were able to see some of these buildings, they worked there, they declared births, deaths, they got married there, they are buried there, they attended a show ... These places are part of their lives, therefore, of our lives... Certainly, sometimes there has been destruction, so we only see the current construction. However, in most cases, the heritage has
withstood time, bad weather, and, whatever its condition, it is still there.
The heritage that will not remain is that of cemeteries... The lack of space and administrative laws mean that some are raised and no longer exist. Our responsibility is to keep track of what has been!
The genealogist not only has the duty of memory of the ancestors, he also has the duty of memory of the heritage. The worry is what will become of all these photos taken. Will they be kept by our descendants ?
This iconography that belongs to us allows us to illustrate our writings, whether they are articles, slices of life, biographies or the history of our family. Even without official copyright, it is forbidden to use photos that don't belong to us without the permission of the owner. Even if the photos are published on the net, they are not, unless otherwise specified, free of rights!
Of course, the photos that are most dear to me are those of my ancestors especially since they are very few !...
